Terry Hastings Male Fine Art Photography
Terry Hastings is an American artist residing in Palm Springs, California. His works revolve around the depiction of male beauty in various techniques. He presented his works before in the Palms Springs Art Museum, as well as other exhibitions in Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland OR, Tampa and more.
In May 2003, Terry opened "Identity Fashions" a custom-designed clothing store in Minneapolis with then partner and designer Yani Santos. They needed a website and photos to show off all the original work. The cost of photographers, film and developing was too much and Terry said, "Fuck It, I can do this myself." He went out and bought a Sony Cyber Shot and "did it himself".
He has upgraded his camera a few times since then.
In this page we are proud to present a few of Terry's works from each series, and collages made with hundreds of photographs taken in various positions. He says: "The collage pieces - these works have their roots in the "Joiners" of David Hockney, adding time and movement to art. I am using 200 - 500 photos to create one image, but rather than print each photo in 4x6 prints and gluing them together as Hockney did, I use Photoshop. I apply an appropriate filter to the piece to smooth out the edges and voila'."
About his planets series: "In grade school, I learned of the gods and goddesses of Ancient Greece and Rome. I learned of magic thunderbolts and horses with wings and faces that can turn people to stone. I also learned that this mythology was an ancient religion. I asked, when does my religion become mythology. I quickly became an atheist after that. Here I present to you highlights from "The Planets". Most planets were named after Roman and Greek figures and some Shakespearean ones as well. I attempt to bring these characters to life. The entire solar system was first premiered at Janssen Art Space of Palm Springs, CA in October of 2019."
About his Nude Food series: "The "nude" is often weaponized as lewd and distasteful. I wanted to make it tasty and more importantly, fun. I am taking the stigma out of nudity by adding a sense of whimsy."
